How do you feel about being nominated as 1 of the1000best!
Well I think its pretty cool, its such an honour. Makes you feel real special and loved.

How did you get your name?
Well my owners decided it was ‘Good for US’ and I looked like a Gus although I’m not that sure what other Guses look like as I’m yet to meet one. Obviously I prefer the more formal version of Mr Gus – makes me feel important. I also get Gussy, Gustuv, GusGus and that bl..dy cat.

When were you born?
I was an April baby, the 21st in fact in 1999. I think that makes me a Aries – he’s the Ram. I came from very good bloodstock - Merindalee Abyssinians. Go check out some of the champions in my family tree - they are exquisite

What is so special about you?
My best feature I reckon is my personality and my looks. I have a magnificent coat – sort of bronzey and real shinny – mind you I do take immaculate care of myself, you won’t find any dirty bits on me. I’m a bit of character too. I don’t take kindly to strangers – they have to be pretty special for me to get anywhere near them. I’m very good at being aloof and somewhat arrogant. I have a great sense of humour and like to play rough. Funnily enough I remember Abbey and Georgia told me I was a ‘stiff’ cat – no big deal really as I keep myself pretty pumped as far as muscles – well you have to don’t you if you are one of the best.

What do you think is a cool thing to do?
Probably my coolest thing is that I am a bit of a song and dance man and like to play drums. Well not physically sit there with a drum kit if you know what I mean. I like someone to hold my paws and tap out rhythm with me as we sing songs. My favourite is The Grand Old Duke of York. You know when he goes up the hill and down again – when there’re up there’re up and when there’re down there’re down and so it goes. It’s a goody. I like it when my paws go fast. I did contemplate having a crack at auditioning for the Pussycat Dolls but I don’t think I quite met their criteria – bit of a shame really.
I do love to have a dance as well, especially if I am lifted up high – I like heights.

What do you get up to when your owner/s are away?
Whoa… better be careful what I say here. Most times I do a lot of sleeping but I also like to just cruise around checking out things and investigating places where really you are not suppose to go. Don’t really get into too much trouble although I do have a reputation for bringing in live things and letting them run amuck in the house – the odd rat stirs up a bit of fun when the owners get home.

Who are your playmates?
I have Coogee Bear as my playmate and then there’s Broken Beak and the possums. Coogee Bear is just like me although a lot smaller. She is a Princess and boy does she know it. Anyway we have some good games of hide and seek and chasey which inevitably ends in tears as we get a bit rough with each other but we don’t really hurt each other.
Broken Beak is my magpie mate. He must have a bit of an accident as he lost half of his top beak due to some unfortunate incident. Anyway he hangs around and I share some of my meat with him – he is pretty cool and we seem to have an understanding. Then there is the ringtail possum family – I see them in the tree each night and we sometimes give them an apple.

What's your favourite toy?
Well its not really toy as such – it’s the floor rug. You see if you put a ridge in it you create a long tunnel. The idea is to enter the tunnel – its really dark so nobody can see you in there. Then you sit nice and still and keep your eyes set on the tunnel entrance. Inevitable someone or something will appear at the tunnel entrance and as quick as a rat up a drain pipe you charge out – scares the livin daylights out of them so its great fun.
You can also perform spectacular star jumps and loop de loops over the top of the tunnel. Gotta be my favourite.

What's your favourite food?
Very partial to roast turkey.

What do you do that your owner/s DON'T appreciate?
Chuck up on the carpet.
Provide excellent acupuncture therapy to their heads at about 4am.

What do you do that your owner/s DO appreciate?
Love them – lots of rubs and pussycat kisses. Cuddles and nuggles.

Where is your favourite scratching place?
I get off on back massages, chin rubs and a good going over with the flea comb. Makes me buzz. I also like my fur being stroked the wrong way so it all stands up - makes me look like a big ferocious lion.

If you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you take and what 3 people or animals would you choose to be with?
I would take my bed, yes my bed and perhaps a bean bag – I find bean bags very comfortable. I would also take Greg and Jan and might even invite Rosemary from the cattery – she a good lady, I quite like her. Eddie is someone else who may be good to take. He looked after me once and I really liked him.

What's your most memorable moment?
Probably when I had to have half my tail amputated. I had a wee accident and stripped the fur off the end of. After the operation I looked like a polo pony - big red bandage which I had to wear for a couple of weeks. My tail is fine now - shorter than before but still a pretty good tail. Makes me stand out in a crowd.

What's your favourite Quote?
"To gain the friendship of a cat is a difficult thing. The cat is a philosophical, metholodical, quiet animal, tenacious of it's own habits, fond of order and cleanliness, and he does not lightly confer his friendship. If you are worthy of his affection, a cat will be your friend but never your slave. He keeps his free will though he loves, and will not do for you what he thinks unreasonable; but if he once gives himself to you, it is with absolute confidence and affection." ~ Theophile Gautier

cat
(cat) n.
A soft and furry companion with an air of aloofness and refinement and the uncanny ability to take control of the household. Treasured for their companionship and playfulness, a cat is philosophical and quiet and does not lightly confer its friendship. When a cat chooses you as a friend, it is forever.
There is no success but your own success.
