I was absolutely thrilled!

| How did you get your name? |
I was named after the Mayan civilization, which had been the subject of documentary that my (human) brother, Cabel, had been watching. He thought Maya sounded pretty good!

| When were you born? |
December 1997. It was a good year... obviously! I was so small I fitted into the neck of my brother's (Casey's) moccasin.

| What is so special about you? |
Well, obviously I'm beautiful. But I'm also extremely intelligent e.g. if my dad or mum spell the word 'walk' out loud I know exactly what they're talking about.

| What do you think is a cool thing to do? |
I chase sticks and balls with greater enthusiasm than you're ever likely to see.

| What do you get up to when your owner/s are away? |
Owners? You mean my parents? I sit and wait with great patience for them to come home, or bark at anyone who has the temerity to walk past our place!

I don't associate with other dogs!

A stick of course!

Raw carrot.

It's not what I do, it's what they do and I get blamed for it! What's that about...?

I always thank them for giving me dinner. I nuzzle them under their arm.

I don't like to be scratched! I like to have my belly rubbed... please

| What's your most humourous moment? |
I got my ball stuck in my mouth. Wide open! And Mum and Dad thought I was enjoying playing with my ball... took them hours to realise the damn thing was stuck there!

A throwing/fetching stick. Another throwing/fetching stick. And ... oh, a throwing/fetching stick.

| What's your most memorable moment? |
I used to get bacon, black pudding and eggs for breakfast until that dam Vet said it was no good for me. What would she know?

David Attenborough. I think he understands the role animals play in the world. I think he would acknowledge that humans do not (should not) have dominion over the undomesticated.

Loyal, beautiful, obedient, independent, gracious and of course modest... and the best damn stick chaser you've ever come across!

| If you ruled the world, what would you do or change? |
I would teach humans respect for the earth. The stick could come in handy.
