| How do you feel about being nominated as 1 of the1000best! |
Absolutely priviliged to be nominated and excited to be here at the start of such a positive endeavour! |
| What makes a person special? |
People who follow their dreams have a truly special quality! They are the free spirits, the ones who take a risk, follow their heart, ignore the expectations of family, friends and society... and we ALL have the potential to be special! |
| Why do you think others see you as special? |
I am a very free spirit. I've never been connected to the 'tribal mind.' It's a strong aspect in my astrology and is a characteristic that has really allowed me to go where others wouldn't go, both personally and professionally. |
| What special things do you do for other people? |
I think I'm blessed to have the ability to be a wonderful mother to my kids, a great friend to a lot of people and in the work that I do/the story I'm here to tell, to make a difference to the health of the next generation. But being able to have an impact of that nature doesn't seem so special to me, it's just what I do, what I love and who I am. |
| If you could do something special for someone, what would it be? |
I'd do anything at all for my two boys and they know it - but fortunately they don't need it and don't ask for it! I'd do anything at all for my Mum because she's always given me 150% (and still does at age 83)! |
| What's your most memorable moment? |
The birth of my first son - top of the list!
Standing on the top of a 6,500m summit in the Himalayas - a close second! Publication of my first book comes in at number three! |
| What would you like others to know about you? |
I'll be 60 years old in 2007 - a true Fire Pig. My two sons are my greatest achievements, but I'm also proud of what I've done since their births, which were the catalyst for all I've done since. Four published books which promote a natural approach to everything from fertility to breastfeeding, development of a number of successful business enterprises and in this Year of the Fire Pig, an opportunity to expand my work to a global platform! |
| What's important to you, what are your values? |
Following my heart is important, acting with love honour and integrity is a core value. When I can truly say that about any action I undertake - I know I've got it right. |
| What are your passions? |
My boys and my work. Since my work involves communicating, writing, travelling and meeting interesting, uplifting, inspirational people it's easy to be passionate. |
| What are your hobbies and interests? |
Music, theatre, great food, even better wine, the outdoors, the water, the mountains, keeping fit, my business interests, and skiing ... not necessarily in that order |
| What's the most amazing thing you've ever done? |
Given birth to two babies at home - not so exceptional in the big scheme of things, but certainly in this day and age
Climbing a 6,500m peak at age 49 - I left the youngsters behind! |
| What are your dreams and goals? |
To make sure the next generation of children reaches their full genetic potential, which means cleaning up the diet, lifestyle and environment of prospective parents well before they conceive a child ... just a small ambition |
| Who inspires you? Who would you most like to meet? |
Sue Fear inspired me. I climbed with Sue, but sadly she lost her life in the Himalayas last year. She never compromised, never settled for less than 100%
She was an inspiration to women who sometimes struggle to be seen/heard in a male-dominated environment. |
| How would you describe yourself? |
Big picture/visionary - and modest :) |
| If you ruled the world, what would you do or change? |
I'd put women back in charge of caring for birthing women, I'd make sure every baby was breast fed for as long as he/she wanted, I'd make Montessori-based schooling the norm, I'd promote mothering as a REAL JOB and make sure women had financial incentives to stay at home with their kids, I'd ban non-sustainable agriculture...for starters |
| If you could have one thing, what would it be? |
A big grant from the Bill Gates Foundation so that I could make a start on all of the above :) |
| What do you think is the secret to success? |
Never never never give up! |
| What do you think is cool? |
Communication technologies |
| What do you think is crap? |
Reality TV |
| What is success for you? |
Knowing I've done the best I possibly can with any opportunity that I'm given |
| What makes you happy? |
My life |
| If you could be anyone in the world for a day, who would you be? |
Bill Gates - so I could make that big donation to my cause |
| What's your favourite food? |
Baked potato, salad and barbecued chops/sausages/steak - comfort food of the best sort |
| What's your strategy for overcoming challenges? |
Ask myself what pattern I'm being asked to overcome, ask what I'm being asked to learn, look at the person I am becoming in dealing with the challenge |
| What's the best advice you could give someone who wanted to learn from you or achieve the same success? |
Focus on your vision, not on how you expect to achieve it. Don't be afraid of all those baby steps - they're absolutely vital before you can take bigger ones. Don't judge - act on everything as if it is the best thing that ever happened and let the Gods look after the rest. When you're only in charge of the ingredients, not the end result … nothing ever looks like a failure. Be conscious of your part in a less than an ideal outcome - don't blame someone else. |
| What's your favourite Quote? |
Q. How do you make God laugh?
A. Tell him your plans! |
